Ask a Professional Counsellor
Q. How can I deal with the stress I feel at work?
A. Common reported sources of stress at work
may include lack of time, excessive work demands, poor interpersonal relationships and
fear of lay offs or job loss. Learning effective communication skills, problem solving
strategies and awareness of your personal limitations and boundaries can help to deal with
some stress.
A. Depending on your concerns will depend on who you can turn to for help. The Community Care Access Centre in your city has a volume of information and services to assist with keeping people in their homes longer. This is providing that your mother will accept outside help.
The stress of being the primary caregiver can be overwhelming at times. Remember the importance of self-care. Take time out to nurture your well-being.
A. If you know what career will make you fulfilled then you owe it to yourself to investigate your options, plan your strategy, and consult friends, family, and professionals. Be aware that not everyone will be supportive, on the contrary, your desires will be challenged by some but this is a good thing. Remember, this is not a dress rehearsal- follow your path with a heart.
Q. Why do I feel so guilty when I dont do things I should?
A. First step- replace the word should
with could. Should is judgmental and rarely gives room for personal
choice. On the other hand, could gives you options. We all have options and choices
in the decisions we make. If you make this one small change, it may impact the way you
feel, think, and behave in situations.
Q. How can I learn to be more assertive?
A. Do you believe you have the right to get what you want? If you answered yes, then the rest is learning the skills and practicing. Fake it till you make it! Consult a professional, check out community programs that offer courses and prepare yourself for positive change!
